What's New at the Shrine?

An interactive, multi-media presentation that traces the impact and historical influences of Christianity opened at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows in Belleville, IL, on Good Friday, April 14.  This exhibit entitled, Sharing the Spirit’s Fire  presents a timeline of Christianity on a colorful, 500 square-foot mural that depicts some key events starting with those just before the birth of Jesus Christ, through the following centuries, and leading up to today. 

Together with the Christianity timeline, visitors will have the opportunity to see how the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, a religious order of approximately 4,500 priests and brothers, have served the world’s poor since their founding in 1816.

Our Lady of the Snows Annual Healing and Hope Novena

7:30 p.m. Nightly

Each evening begins with the celebration of Mass at 7:30 p.m. with a specialist homilist.  Included with the liturgy is a healing ritual and special prayers for healing.  The evening concludes with a candleight rosary procession.

Do You Really Want to Be Healed?

In a world divided by religion and race, culture, creed and class, how do we arrive at a place of peace?  When our faith communities and families experience separation and estrangement, how do we discover the grace and courage of forgiveness and find our common ground? When friendships, fail, how do we restore the relationship?  This workshop explores six themes essential to a life of forgiveness and a ministry of reconciliation:  Recognition, Recollection, Honesty, Hospitality, Humility, and Hope.

Are My Feelings Normal?

A panel discussion led by the Unity Hospice Team of social workers will lead participants in discussion of different aspects of grief.  Discussion topics include:  The ways people grieve, How death affects spirituality, Physical manifestations of grief, Difference in types of loss, People say the darnedest things, and Entering the next phase of life without guilty feelings.
